The quality of wood pellets can vary greatly. When buying wood pellets one should preferably seek a fuel that conforms to one of the classes outlined in the Technical Guide 1 Solid Biofuel Classification Guidelines . Consumers should examine the following pellet characteristics:

  • size
  • moisture content
  • ash content
  • mechanical durability
  • amount of fines
  • binding agents
  • bulk density
